Our remediation process

First we fix the water.
Then we remove the mold.

01

Diagnose

We inspect the growth, map how far it has spread and find where the water is actually getting in, whether that's a sunroof drain, a door seal or a blocked AC drain.

02

Fix the moisture source

Before any cleaning, we deal with the leak itself. Clearing blocked drains and correcting water entry comes first, because mold returns if the water does.

03

Decontaminate the exterior

A full exterior detail and clay bar decontamination, so we aren't sealing a dirty shell around a treated cabin.

04

Fumigate, ventilate and dry

Chlorine dioxide fumigation kills the growth in places no wipe-down reaches. Then we air the vehicle out and dry it thoroughly.

05

Interior mold cleanup & detailing

Enzyme cleaners, steam and extraction on every affected surface. Depending on how bad it is, we remove the seats and carpets to reach trapped moisture underneath, and we match the chemicals and equipment to how deeply the growth has rooted.

06

Second fumigation, dry & condition

A final fumigation treatment, then we condition the interior and let it dry properly before handing the keys back.

Why CMRE

We specialize in removal,
not a wipe and done.

Mold in a car is a moisture problem with a cleaning problem on top, so we work in order. Find and fix what's letting water in. Fumigate with chlorine dioxide. Then clean, extract and dry every affected material. On heavier jobs we pull the seats and carpet liner, because that's where the moisture hides, and we don't cheap out on supplies. The goal is mold that's gone, not wiped off and masked.

  • Clear scope and price before work
  • Seats and carpets out when the job calls for it
  • Professional-grade chemicals and equipment
  • Aftercare advice that keeps mold from returning
How we work

Pricing

What car mold removal costs.

Most car mold removal jobs land between $700 and $2,000. Where yours falls depends on how far the mold has spread and how deeply it has rooted into the materials. Light surface growth on a few panels sits at the lower end. If we need to pull the seats and carpet liner to reach moisture underneath, or the growth calls for stronger chemicals and equipment, the price moves up. We confirm the number after inspecting the car, before any work starts.

Plan to leave the vehicle with us for 2 to 3 days in most cases. Fumigation, the interior detail and the final drying each need their own time, and cutting any of them short is how mold survives.

“We came back after a long trip to find lots of mold in our car. They found a leak from the sunroof, fixed it, then got rid of every speck of mold for us. Fantastic job and I'll always go here for detailing in the future!”

“I found some mold starting to grow in my car and brought it to CMRE. They got it done over the weekend and it was beyond spotless, better than any other detailing job I've ever had. Great work!”

“Mold on the roof liner, on the carpets, seats everywhere. Two other shops didn't even want to touch it. Nik and his team got everything done. It came out a little higher than the quote because they had to pull the whole carpet out and treat it separately, but well worth it in the end. Beats buying another gwagon. Thanx.”

Questions, answered

Before you hand over the keys.

01Can mold in a car be removed completely? +

Yes, when the moisture source is fixed and the growth is chemically killed and extracted rather than wiped off. That's the order we work in: repair whatever is letting water in, fumigate with chlorine dioxide, clean and extract the affected materials, then fumigate again before drying and conditioning. What we won't do is mask the problem and hand the keys back.

02Why does my car still smell musty after detailing? +

Because detailing cleans surfaces, and the mold isn't only on the surface. It roots into seat foam, carpet underlay and the ventilation system, and the moisture feeding it is usually still there. Until the leak is fixed and the growth underneath is killed and extracted, the smell keeps coming back.

03How much does car mold removal cost? +

Between $700 and $2,000 for most vehicles. The extent of the mold sets the price: how far it has spread, how deeply it has rooted and whether the seats and carpet liner have to come out to reach moisture underneath. Deeper growth also means different chemicals and systems to tackle it. We confirm the price after inspecting the car, before any work starts.

04How long does car mold removal take? +

You'll need to drop the car off for 2 to 3 days in most cases. Fumigation, the interior detail and the final drying and conditioning each take real time, and rushing any of them leaves mold behind. We give you a pickup window when the quote is confirmed.

05Do you offer mobile car mold remediation? +

No, and we'd be careful with anyone who says they can fully remove mold in your driveway. Proper remediation needs fumigation, seat and carpet removal, extraction equipment and days of controlled drying, none of which fits in a mobile detailing setup. Mobile operators usually run an ozone machine and give the surfaces a light once-over. Ozone kills surface mold but doesn't reach growth rooted deeper in foam and fabric, and a quick wipe doesn't chemically kill it or extract it, so the problem comes back. We specialize in removal, which is why the car comes to us, why it takes 2 to 3 days and why we charge accordingly.

06How do I keep mold from coming back? +

Two habits cover most of it. Park out of the rain and away from trees and shrubs where you can, since falling leaves and debris clog sunroof and AC drains, and that's how moisture builds up inside the car. And drive the car at least once a week. A vehicle that sits closed up with no airflow is exactly the damp, still environment mold needs to thrive, and regular driving keeps air moving through the cabin.
